The unmistakable Scottish Highlands are shrouded in myth and folklore. Amid the conical hills and verdant glens beyond Inverness, one cannot help but scan Loch Ness for signs of its legendary monster. Nearby is Culloden Moor, where Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated and Cawdor Castle, which is forever linked with Macbeth. There are several famous whisky distilleries in the region too.

Kirkwall’s Norse heritage stretches back almost a millennium when the Vikings laid the foundations for St Magnus Cathedral, the most northerly cathedral in Britain, and is built from local sandstone. Tune in to the history of the radio at the Wireless Museum or sample the island’s peaty single malts at the Highland Park Distillery.

Indulge in expertly curated cuisine at one of Queen Anne’s alternative restaurants. A friendly home-from-home in which to savour classic pub fare. Devote an indulgent hour every day to a Cunard tradition: our signature Afternoon Tea. On the sea day, you will be able to enjoy awe-inspiring entertainment from morning to night. Don’t forget about the live performance in the evening.

Nestled on the coast of the land of fire and ice, Reykjavik is your gateway to Iceland’s rugged natural wonders. The world’s most northern capital, this city is world-renowned for its unspoiled natural landscapes, Viking history, and vibrant city culture. What was once a traditional fishing village now serves as the island’s cultural centre, as travellers from far and wide come to experience this unique city surrounded by extraordinary lagoons, geysers, waterfalls, and volcanoes. Perched on the Seltjarnar Peninsula on the southern shore of Faxa Bay, the southwestern city of Reykjavik offers guests a memorable stay in the North Atlantic.

Reykjavik offers a wonderful range of things to see, giving you a generous glimpse into the history and culture of this part of the world, from the 19th-century Parliament House to the pretty streets of old Reykjavik. From souvenir shopping for local crafts to an afternoon spent in a state of utter relaxation at the Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik is a city that brings a wonderful range of opportunities. One of Reykjavik’s most sought-after attractions, the Blue Lagoon is a spa experience like no other. Located in a lava field near Grindavik, around an hour from Reykjavik, this geothermal spa uses Iceland’s volcanic landscape to produce heat power. Many speak of the unique skin benefits that the Blue Lagoon brings, so why not try it for yourself?

Few regions are as wild and unspoiled as Iceland’s Westfjords. With miles of mountains and few-and-far-between roads, venturing here evokes the feeling of entering uncharted terrain. The landscape is dramatic, and approaching by sea offers the perfect chance to absorb the scenery before setting foot on land. The most enchanting attraction of this area perhaps is the peace, stillness, and calm it emanates. Embrace local life in Ísafjörður town or visit the charming nearby village of Flateyri. Further afield, you can sail to Vigur, home to Iceland’s last remaining windmill, where time has seemingly stood still, and the boat is the only connection to the world outside.

Established in the mid-17th century and affectionately nicknamed ‘The Capital of North Iceland,’ Akureyri is home to the country’s largest and most well-known fishing company. Sailing into Akureyri evokes the feeling of an explorer entering uncharted terrain. Though technically a city, Akureyri is smaller than most towns, with several museums, as well as the beautiful Akureyrarkirkja church among the highlights to explore. The latter a striking example of Lutheran architecture. Akureyri’s evolution from Viking settlement to present-day fishing port is the theme at Akureyri Museum, while the childhood home of author Jón Sveinsson provides another insightful step into the past. Golf fans, however, may be tempted to stray to Akureyri’s Golf Club Jaðarsvöllur. Founded in 1935, the 18-hole course is said to be the most northerly in the world.

Sail the peaceful waters of Eyjafjordur in the north of Iceland, enjoying vistas filled with wildlife and immaculate natural scenery for miles as you do. Eyjafjordur is your tranquil route to Akureyri, a pretty city that lies at the end of the fjord. On your way here, you’ll pass a number of smaller towns and villages along the shore. Almost 50 miles in length, it offers an unforgettable scenic journey that instills a sense of calm. With mountains towering high on both sides, including the magnificent Mount Kerling at 5,046 feet, you’ll find yourself taking endless photos of the picturesque views.

The tiny island of Hrisey brings beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife, and interesting history and culture to ponder. Home to fewer than 200 residents, Hrisey is most known for its rich birdlife and Viking history. The island is quite flat, at only 361 feet above sea level at its highest, but its vast green plains make for a pretty vision – especially against the mountainous backdrop of Iceland’s mainland behind. Eyjafjordur presents an excellent opportunity for whale-watching, so stay on the lookout for humpbacks, orcas, and blue whales, as well as porpoises and dolphins.

Greenock is your gateway to Glasgow, arguably Scotland’s most animating cultural city. It serves as a brilliant stepping-stone to some of Scotland’s most rugged and breathtaking scenery to the north. As you disembark at Greenock to explore Glasgow, you will likely be greeted by the stirring sights and sounds of a traditional Scottish pipe band in full tartan regalia. Greenock itself is a pretty town just a short walk from the port. It has a rich heritage of herring fishing and shipbuilding. The prosperity resulting from these lucrative industries is quite evident in the impressive Victorian architecture of the major buildings in town, such as the Sheriff Court, the Municipal Building, and the Customs House – now a museum dedicated to the town’s maritime history.

The cosmopolitan city of Glasgow, the largest in Scotland, is only 25 miles from Greenock and is not to be missed. As if the city’s blend of Victorian and ultra-modern architecture was not enough of a spectacle, there are a host of museums and galleries. The Riverside Museum stands out simply because it looks so very different from its counterparts and hosts a vast range of exhibits illustrating Glasgow’s rich past. The Gallery of Modern Art is Scotland’s most visited art gallery – and once again, a glimpse at the building from the outside is an attraction in itself.

After breakfast, disembark the cruise, say goodbye to the Northern Hemisphere, and be transferred to the airport for the homeward-bound flight. (Staying behind in UK or Europe available on request, please inform our consultant upon booking).

End of the unforgettable holiday. The group will be arriving in Sydney/Melbourne/ Brisbane, Australia on Day 20.
